Every year for a week in early April, when the 🌸cherry blossoms are in their full bloom, the sakura trees in Gokoku shrine and the Onsen shrine are 🔦lit up for visitors to experience a 🏮mystical atmosphere and enjoy Japanese 🎵traditional festival ️music as well as traditional performances by local 👘geisha ladies.
This “Night Cherry Blossom Festival” in Kinugawa Onsen is a great opportunity for overseas visitors to experience the authentic local culture and the beauty of the night sakura in the same location.
While you are there, don’t forget to take a dip in the amazing hot springs (onsens) ‘Kinugawa onsen’ ♨️ has to offer as well 😉
Kinugawa is a famous Onsen (Hot spring) town so there are many nice Onsen Ryokans (Japanese Style Hotels with a hot spring). Some Ryokans also cater for guests with dietary requirements.
Kinugawa area is a popular destination so there are many Ryokans (Japanese Hotels) with Western style rooms that cater towards western guests.
There are a few Guesthouses and holiday homes options in this area, but there are many Hotels and Ryokans with hot springs to choose from.

By Public Transport
Via Limited Express trains from Tobu-Asakusa Station (2hrs 30min)
From Asakusa or Shinjuku, take the Limited Express Revaty ‘Kegon’, ‘Aizu’ ‘Kinu’ or Spacia’ or towards Kinugawa Onsen or Tobu-Nikko.
If the train is going towards Tobu-Nikko change at Shimo-imaichi Station in Nikko, and transfer to Tobu-Kinugawa Line bound for Shin-Fujiwara.
Alight at Kinugawa Onsen Station and walk 25 minutes to Kinugawa Park or take a short bus ride.
Or you can alight at Kinugawa-Koen station and walk for 15 min.
By Car
Via Imaichi IC on Nikko-Utsunomiya Doro (2hrs 45min from Tokyo)
Approximately 2 hr 45 min (165 km) from Tokyo via Tohoku Expressway & Utsunomiya-Nikko Doro.
It is around 25 minutes from Imaichi IC on the Nikko-Utsunomiya Doro (Toll road).
*Only parking for 30 cars onsite.
