Daigo town is surrounded by beautiful mountains, rivers and hiking trails in the north of Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.
It is famous for its Waterfalls including Fukuroda Falls (袋田の滝/ Fukuroda no Taki), Tsukimachi Falls (月待の滝/ Tuskimachi no Taki), and Namase Falls (生瀬滝/ Namasedaki).
Furthermore, it is a well-known hot spring destination with traditional Japanese inns (Ryokans) to relax. Surrounded by nature it is also a great spot to enjoy the autumn leaves.
This month, we met Asuka and Kanako who work in the Daigo tourism department for a friendly chat.
They were extremely welcoming and so helpful. We learned so much and came away realizing that this small town in the mountains was surely a hidden gem to be explored more!
Fukuroda Falls is one of the three most renowned waterfalls in Japan. It is beautiful all seasons, but particularly stunning in the winter when it starts to freeze.
With a height of 120m and a width of 73m it is a beautiful waterfall to experience when covered in ice. From the observation deck you can see the waterfall up and close!
