In this month’s newsletter, we are featuring ‘Kinugawa Onsen’ in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.
Kinugawa Onsen is a very popular onsen (hot spring) village, part of Nikko City, located 30 min from Central Nikko. Onsen enthusiasts come from around Japan to stay in its many Japanese Ryokans and enjoy the effects of the natural hot springs.
For a quieter area, the Kawaji Onsen is another popular hot spring area 10km upstream from Kinugawa Onsen.
This month we went to Nikko-Kinugawa’s Tourism Department for a friendly chat with Toshiki Akutsu san, to learn everything about this thermal village.
He shared with us what Kinugawa Onsen is famous for: it’s hot springs and natural attractions, its famous festivals, and all special discounts and passes available for visitors.
The Silk Express is a new bus service that offers stress-free & relaxing journeys from JR Utsunomiya station to Kinugawa Onsen. And what’s more, the Silk Express offers fun excursions from Kinugawa Onsen to Yunishigawa and the Central Nikko area.
