Practical Tips for Traveling in Japan

Japan is a fun place to visit, but also a unique country with its own rules, systems, language, and culture.

Especially for first-time visitors, the train systems (Suica, Japan Rail pass, how to book etc), Hotels (Ryokans, Onsen etiquette), Restaurants (manners such as otooshi, dietary requirements), ATMs, road laws (renting a car) can be difficult to navigate.

Here’s where you come in!

We are looking for experienced writers currently living in Japan to write ‘how-to articles” for us on a regular basis.

We are looking for experienced writers (professional, and non-professional) who are able to write engaging, easy to understand articles.

About half of our audience has English as their second language so we are looking for easy to understand articles.

Payment will be based on the length of the article (not including the bio):

400-600 words ¥2,800
601-1,000 words ¥5,200
1,000+ words ¥7,800

*Including 3 good quality copyright-free photos and 2 links within the text to other pages inside www.nearbytokyo.com

*The article will include a profile photo of you as well as a short bio, where we can link to either your blog, YouTube, podcast, or SNS.

Your North of Tokyo Experience

Have you traveled North of Tokyo? Would you like to share your experience of Tochigi, Gunma, Saitama and Ibaraki Prefecture?

If you do, this is for you!

Every month, we help introduce a new town, village or city in this region on our website and through our Newsletter (see our previous newsletters).

We are looking for people to share their stories, recommendations, and journeys in our blog. First-hand experiences, which can be past travel adventures, so you do not need to be living in Japan.

Places we are planning to feature in the future are:

Nikko, Oku-Nikko, Kinugawa, Kawagoe, Kusatsu, Mito, Minakami, Nasu-Shiobara, Nasu-Karasuyama, Itako, Koga, Shima, Numata, Sayama.

Example of previous articles

For our 'Travel blog' articles, we are looking for authentic stories, to help future travelers get a better idea of the places we cover. You do not have to be a professional writer, just passionate about sharing your experience.

We are looking for stories that are positive and aimed at tourists planning to come to Japan.

There is no word count limit, but we prefer blogs with at least 600+ words.

We will also need at least 2 quality copyright-free photos or youtube videos to accompany the text and of course, you will be credited for those.
